Internship Agreement

A simple internship agreement that can be signed by an incoming intern. There are two types of internship agreements depending on the HR policy of the company.

The short form internship agreement is friendly in nature; and takes the form of a short letter agreement that sets out key confidentiality obligations and ownership provisions (ie. that whatever is built over the course of the internship is the property of the company).

The long form internship agreement is mirrored like an employment contract – except that it takes into account the short term and temporal nature of the potential internship.

Unless the internship falls under certain exempted categories, an intern could be classified as an employee of the company. This being the case, it is important to consider how interns are treated within the company.
